Recipe of the week is PUPSICLES submitted by of one of our readers, Judith.
These are easy for children to make for their dogie companions but never leave a child alone to operate a blender.
- 1 c. vegetable liquid (saved from whatever assortment of vegetables have been cooked for dinner but no onions.)
- 1 or 2 carrots, peeled and finely grated
- 1/3 c. cabbage or broccoli stalks, finely grated
Wash vegetables thoroughly and peel, grate or chop. Put all ingredients into a blender. Process the liquid with the grated vegetables until the mixture is slushy. (Add a bit more water if the mixture seems too thick.) Pour into ice cube molds and freeze. When the cubes are completely solid, store them in a plastic bag in the freezer. Serve these treats outside, as they are too messy to be eaten in the house. Use an ice cube tray that has small molds or, if you don’t have one, just partially fill the molds using no more than a teaspoon and a half of the mixture for each cube. Dogs can choke on regular size ice cubes.
